Unseasonable weather occurred when Caius was born four days early. His mother, Heather of Nuchar, was caught in Merro wood travelling from her home to her mother’s when the labor began. Fortunately Jaldor of Rethem found her. He is a local yeoman who pledged his protection to the child at his birth. He saw Heather and the newborn safely home. Thor kicks himself to this day for letting Heather out of his sight so late in her pregnancy, but he had to go to work, and Heather has a mind of her own.

Mother: Heather of Nuchar, age 37, 5’9", 100-lbs. Fair skinned, red hair, green eyes. Peonian who pays lip service to Halea. Parents owned the Coranan mill (#103.) Part of a large family (10/12 children) she had no dowry. She and Thor married for love. She works still in the family mill - preparing baked goods to be sold in the market. Her oldest brother, Lorquan, runs the family bakery.

The majority of her family is still alive. Her father is retired, her mother died giving birth to the last child (Gordon.) The majority of her brothers are in the legion. Their common hope is to gain land after 25 years of service. Heather is a quiet woman who loves all her children and is always happy to welcome them home. She is a freeman, and hopes, someday, to have one of her children obtain citizenship. She watches political intrigues in the city of Coranan closely, and is sharp eared to the local gossip. She knows, because of her husband’s association with the Wejik clan, that they are more involved in the politics of the clan than most freemen families. Her yearly wage is 360d.

Father: Thor of Wejik, Age 41. 7’0", 221 lbs. Dark complexion, blond hair and blue eyes. Pays lip service to Halea (16.) Average (10) looks. Originally Hodiri, he was adopted into the Wejik clan as his mother was a wet nurse to Senator Aldor Wejik. He served in the legion from the age of 16 to 21 as a bodyguard to Aldor’s brother, Thommas who is now a Triberties Linari (Captain) in the Red Guard. He served an additional 8 years to gain his freedom and citizenship. He retired at age 29 to help his wife though a rough pregnancy. He now serves one month out of three.

Believes every male should serve at least four years in the legion, and that women, while welcome as support troops in the legion, should not be actual legionnaires. He married his wife out of love. His large family is his life now. When not serving as a reservist in the legion, he is an unskilled worker about town. His yearly wage is 246d.

He was devastated at the assassination of his eighth child, Marella, even though they disagreed regularly on politics and women in the legion. His family urged him to not become a spy for the Jeredoka clan, and because he refused - she was killed. He blames himself for her death. He has few dealings with the Wejik clan but has been hired as a bodyguard for the senator, or his family, on occasion.

Due to the cost of living in Coranan, he sent Caius to live with his wife’s third oldest sister (Alareen of Nuchar) and her husband (Martewn of Hundarl) in Coranan (#81.) Thor hoped that this would teach Caius a sellable skill to be used once he left the legion.

Debryne (F. Appearance: Blond hair, shoulder length. Blue eyes. 5’7", 135 pounds, light frame, attractive). Born 696, 20 Azura (Hirin/Lyahvi.) Part of the Coranan guild of the Mangai. Recruited at age 10. Like her mentor, she avoids chantry politics. At age 18 she joined the legion. Master craftsman at magic and a fast learner. She joined the legion at age 16, and is currently serving at Geishtei cohort (Fort Fobin.) Current age: 24. No marriage prospects. A good reputation amongst the Shek-P’var, she is not the least "bookish." Considered a good soldier by her Milities Primus, she is the group’s Milities Fabrica with her skills of masonry, engineering, glassblowing, and mathematics. She’s a lousy cook, but very good with a needle and thread.

Crasel (M. Appearance: Black hair, cropped short. Brown eyes. 6’4", 210 pounds, average frame, average looks.) Born 697, unpopular with his father due to his lack of time in the legion. He bought and runs a second-hand shop in Coranan. Considered a skilled repairman, he is well liked. Friendly and lucky in dice but knows when to stop. He has a remarkable ability to find things, if not information. Rumor has it he has links to the Lia-Kavir. If that’s true - he’s not telling.

Elyse (F. Appearance: Red hair, waist length, Blue eyes. 5’10", 100 pounds, scant frame. Attractive.) Born 700, married a tavern keeper in Coranan (#47) at the age of 16. Popular with her family, her father provided 2 fine legion swords, a mail haulberic and a Linari cap for their 2 sons. Currently the family has 1 son (age 2) and 1 daughter (9 months.) She works hard in the tavern, and is liked by the clientele both for her looks and sunny attitudes. She visits home often. Their tavern is now Thor’s favorite drinking spot - although he always pays for his drinks. Her husband is Urbon of Akain. Clientele includes soldiers and officials from the castle.

Willom (M. Appearance: Blond hair, cropped short, Blue eyes. 7’0", 281 pounds. Dark complexion.) Born 701. A large man, but slow of whit, he joined the legion at the age of 18. He was still in training when his brother Caius joined him in Coranan’s legion training hall. He retired after four years in the legion married a young woman whose father runs a smithy. She is equally slow, but a loving woman. Both families agreed to the match.

Neradas (M. Appearance: Brown hair, shoulder length, Brown eyes. 6’8", 200 pounds. Fair skinned. Attractive.) Became a priest of peoni at the age of 14, to his mother’s delight. He was "Unpopular" with Thor, because of his career choice. He served in the Peoni Church in Cestor. Born 704. Friendly, but mousy. He abhorred violence, and loved the idea of healing at a touch. Died in 715. The true reasons behind the attack remain unknown.

Tysele (F. Appearance: Black hair, waist length, Blue eyes, 5’8", 135 lbs, dark skinned. Attractive.) Born 706. A quiet girl she was to be apprenticed to a local herbalist in Coranan. She was in love with a young Sword Dancer (Partio.) Standing near a duel she was struck by a dagger from the crowd meant for Partio. His challenger (Aaron) killed Partio’s assassin, and declared Partio the victor of the duel. Together they buried Tysele. The family has since adopted them both into their family. Partio of Wejik and Aaron of Wejik visit once every 10 day, sometimes together, sometimes not.

Marella (F. Brown hair, shoulder length, Brown eyes. Attractive. 5’6", 150 lbs. ) Born 710. She was unpopular with her father because she wanted to join the legion. At the age of 7 she was kidnapped to try and force Thor to spy on the Weijk clan and pledge loyalty to the Jeredoka clan. At the urging of his family, he told the Weijk clan of the incident. Before anything could be done, Marella was found floating in the Thardic River. The family has sworn revenge. All the family (with the clan’s help) have managed to find out is that the assassin/kidnapper was not from the Lia-K’avir but may have been a Navehian cultist. The clan Jeredoka flatly refuses having any information on this incident.

Partio (M. Black hair, cut short, Brown eyes. Average looks. 6’0", 200 lbs.) Born 703. He was orphaned at birth. He fell in love with Tysele, and was well liked by her family. After her death, he was adopted into the family and has since been working for the Weijik clan as a hired sword. A rising Sword Dancer, his skills are well known in Coranan. Occasionally he works as either a sword-trainer or a bodyguard with Thor. He now calls Heather - "Mom" and considers her family his own.

Aaron (M. Blond hair, cut short, Blue eyes. Average looks. 5’8", 198lbs.) Born 705. He left his family in Geishtei and has never looked back. As far as he’s concerned, he might as well be an orphan. After Tysele’s death he began working with Partio to find her killer. So far he’s found links to the Navehian cult, but nothing else. He considers himself to be a better Sword-dancer than Partio and works as a bodyguard for the Weijik clan when he needs the money. A drinking friend of Thor, he accepts the man as a friend, and treats his children as close cousins.

Maternal Aunt Alareen of Nuchar: (F. Brown hair, brown eyes. 5’0", 100lbs, medium complexion, attractive. Born 680.) Married the Martewn of Hundarl (a metal smith) she took care of Casius from the ages of 6 to 16. She is a housewife who spent most of her time nursing her son, Theru, through life. Born without the use of his legs, he has slowly been loosing his range of motion. Alareen has never been one for gossip, but quite content with her own life. She does needlecraft and a bit of weaving that she sells at the local market.

Maternal Uncle Martewn of Hundarl (M. Black hair, brown eyes. 6’0", 225lbs, medium complexion, average. Born 679.) A good metal crafter (#81) in Coranan he is known for his average prices and good quality. He welcomed Casius for the help he provided in return for his services. The lad worked the bellows and learned the basics of metal crafting. Cousin Theru (B700, age 20. Black hair, brown eyes, 5’5", 110 lbs, scant, average looks.) Works at the guild of the Mangai where his disability is not noticed. He is an exceptional Shek-P’var who sends home 100d each month to his family. He remembers Casius fondly, and knows without Casius Martewn’s fortunes would have suffered from his son’s disabilities.

Cousin Sasha (B702, age 18. Brown hair, brown eyes. 5’8", 145lbs.) A bit of a tom boy, she also spent her childhood in the metalshop. Mostly helping her mother with her needlework, she and Casius became quite close as they lived together. Quick with a joke, or a laugh, she is good tempered, if not very patient. Fair with a needle, she is far better with a short sword or a spear. A master marksman, she hopes to train as a hunter, as she no longer likes the city with its intrigues.

Medical

Caius is allergic to a rare herb that is only sometimes seen in the Coranani Markets. At the age of 7 Heather tried to give him a bath using a new scent (instead of rose water) and Caius broke out into a rash. Heather has since forgotten the name of the herb.

Step 3. Youth. (Ages 1-10)

A few times in Caius’s early life he got to go with his father to work at the Wytel home in Coranan. Fascinated with his father’s strength and size, the child quickly decided to become just like his father. At the age of 6 he was given 276d from the Weijik clan. He had acted as a messenger for his father, and brought aide promptly, thus saving a Weijik from further harm. Heather has never forgiven Thor for Caius’s first adventure. It is not spoken of at home.

What event most marked your character's youth?: Taking care of his brother.

Why?: Caius looked after his brother, Willom, for as long as he could remember. Only when he turned 21 did Willom return home and Caius continued his career in the Legion.

What person most influenced your character during youth?: X Parent His father, and a guy who served under him who used throwing knives.

Did your character fall in love during youth? Sort of, he never really had time, but he enjoyed the time spent with his cousin Sasha.

What was the main emotion your character remembers feeling during youth?: X Happiness

Why?: Caius’s family is very close. Together they provide the support (both financial and emotional) needed to raise eight kids, loose two to mysterious circumstances and take care of a permanent child and still be able to function in the Thardic Society.

Why?: Caius grew up with an understanding of duty. Both his parents worked and served their time in the legion. They brought him up to have dignitas, even if he was only a freedman.

Why?: Caius learned by example. His parents are pillars in their local society, and they were respected because their parents had Dignitas. They treated each other the same way they would treat friends or other respectable members of their society.

Other Distinguishing Features/Description: Large and rugged, his skin forearms and face are well tanned, while the rest of his skin is of average complexion. He has a large scar in his center thorax where he caught a gargun spear during a raid on Fort Ritzen. He smiles a fair amount, and still blushes at sexual advances. He tries to be patient and calm in most all situations, but has a Primi’s bark that will make any Linari jump.

Apprenticeship Events (ages 10-16)

Sometime around his 11th year, Caius was practicing archery with his cousin when they encountered a small boy who seemed lost. The boy was an orphan who greatly appreciated Caius taking him home and having his mother feed the stranger. Over time the three of them became very close. The friend, Lucius, was a member of the lia-k’avir.

By his 13th year he’d become quite use to visiting the Wytel house, and tasting the delicacies served at their table. The Wytel’s cook tutored the boy on how to discern the spices in most any dish, and the quality of wines with only the smallest sample. While it did develop in him very expensive tastes that he can rarely indulge, it has also served him well.

That same year Lucius was kidnapped and tortured. Caius was prominent in finding the boy and freeing him. Lucius was living with a foster family who had heavy debts. His father, Solon, was one of the Wytel body guards. Solon was being pressured to help assassinate Senator Torbir Wytel. Caius managed to free Lucius and escape before the assassination could take place. That riotous run through the city introduced Caius to throwing knives as well as a courage he had not otherwise known existed within him.

At the Smithy, he had to look after Theru as well as do the manual labor in the shop. In the legion he looked after Willom during his spare time. He saw all this as part of his duties, and only now is beginning to realize how much of his free time all these things took.

Pregame Events (ages 16 to current)

At 16 Caius joined the legion. He spent his first six months at Fort Helar and then went out to Caer Fobin. His tenaci was a relatively friendly group and included Willom. During their duties, the tenaci discovered a possible hiding place of the Geishtei hoard. But their duties kept them from exploring further. He learned a lot, meeting both an elf (Sabrina) and a dwarf (Nevill) in his four years at Fobin. He learned how to make chocolate sib (making a deal with a vendor who returns to Fobin each spring), and chased bandits all over Geminost Province. He was a Milities Fabrica.Now he’s a Milities Primi, with his own tenaci to train and work with.Step 5: Finalizing and Customizing.
