Description:

A cylindar, about 5 inches long and 2 inches in diameter. It is covered with a runic writing that is pale against the dark wood. The writing details the second verse of creation. It weighs 2 lbs. Sensitive people will see a form or something shifting within the darkness of the wood, behind the writing. But, if examined closely it seems like a cool chunk of grainless wood. The lettering is painted a pale yellow on black wood. It shows no damage or ravages of time.

The runes describe the second verse of creation. Specifically:

1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

History:

It is believed to be an artifact of the Elder Gods. Legends from the time before time refer to it as the Rod of Truth or the Cylinder of Hope's Light.

The most notable quote comes from the story of Durthar, a popular hero in Thardic tales. The reference to the Rod of Crescius is as follows:

And Durthar smote his enemies of smoke and light with the Rod of Truth
And they did fade like the smoke they were
To his eyes the ways were clear and the truth of the moment decended upon him
He called to his companions and strode bravely forth
But they still cowered before the smoke and did not hear him
And so alone into the darkness he went...

It was first unearthed in 407TR by a group of farmers who stumbled on an ancient set of ruins in the Hefiosa hills. The owner, one Flatien of Parasoal, gave it to his lord, Amerak of Noras, as part of his yearly taxes. It was lost in the battle of Hefiosa (409TR) when Amerak died, and it was assumed taken by the Hefiosa tribesmen. It was last seen in the Save-K'norian temple in the late 5th century on Lythia, and was given to Enswen of Jerla to study. She gave it to her master, Crescius, when her studies were complete, and it was burried with him in his tomb somewhere on the Hârnic isles. Crescius died looking for the original site where the Rod of Truth lay burried for countless years. His followers built him a tomb somewhere in the hills and then hid it before returning to Lythia. A few texts of Crescius's search, and his followers trip home still remain - but none mark the location of his tomb, or detail all the items he found and studied.

Powers:

The rod can grant the user true sight. As the creator knew all things in their first form, so to can the holder of the rod. Illusions of all form (mind, light or other) disappear and do not affect the holder of the rod. Unfortunately these illusions still exist and will remain visible and affect everyone else.

The rod can also be used by someone with Telekenisis to identify the truth or falsehood of a statement given. The holder must concentrate on the speaker and the success of their Telekenisis roll determines their opinion of the amount of truth told.

CS: Knows for sure
MS: Knows - but is not 100% positive
MF: Believes they know
CF: Hasn't a clue.

It has no charges, and always works. For each use it drains either 15 fp or, in the case of using it with Telekenisis (15-SI)x2.0 fp per 5 minutes of use.

The holder needs to be in skin to skin contact with the device for it to work.
