Journeys of Rowayara of Maràmyth

Description

This is a travel diary of some acclaim, being the first of its kind reportedly written for and by a woman. A self-styled “Adventurer”, Rowayara writes of her daily activities from 651TR through 705TR as she travels across the island of Hârn. How the diary came to be in the hands of the Shek-P’var is unknown. Neither the clan name of Maràmyth, nor the name of Rowayara are known in northern Rethem. Most scholars believe both names, if not most all of the content contained in the volume are false.

History

Born in 634TR in northern Rethem, Rowayara ran away at a young age. The diary begins as her attempt to practice her new skill of writing and the first dozen entries cover almost a year.

Then, quite suddenly, she become prolific and begins describing everything: current politics, fashion, recipes, even detailed conversations with strangers. The work includes bits of poetry and music supposedly composed by Rowayara on her journeys.

NOTE: The work has become popular in common libraries. It is considered “entertainment value” at best, although some of the information could be used for historical research or for making a very good Urcheon pie.

One argument, begun recently in Geishtei is that this travel journal is actually the sum of several women’s lore: Row Myth, a popular bard of the region, Wayra Mara, a known cook at a northern Rethemi inn, are two names taken from this possible anagram. Neither of these two women have been contacted for comment.
