History:

Cargath of Záyírà, a stonemason in the late 600s, is renowned for his self-styled travel adventures. His finest craftsmanship, according to his often copied writings, were a series of rings made from a variety of stones not normally used for jewelry. Most assume he created the Grey Rings, about 60 if you average the numerous accounts. Most of them seem to have fallen into legionnaire hands around the time of the Battle of Chelna Gap (TR 672) when the Thardic League defeated Kaldor.

A few scholars, however, claim that Cargath never learned Runic, and so the rings could not be of his creation. While the scholastic battle rages still, the rings have become harder and harder to find. They are fragile, being made of slate, and often break. Once broken the runes cease to glow, but do fade to a robin's egg blue that is still attractive.

Powers

Once the ring is attuned to its wearer - it removes the -3 penalty to eyesight when seeing in fog. It does not remove any other cumulative penalty on vision (such as the penalty to see in the night -3, etc.).

The ring has a Weapon Quality of 10. It is easily damaged and broken. While they do not explode upon breaking, they do stop functioning.

The ring was created using Sight of Terri, a II Level Odivshian spell, and the Jorum Spell (Neutral II). The spells were cast as the ring was carved. The runes appear to be purely decorative.
