September 27, 2016

Part 1 of 15 in the series Friends, Foes & Followers

Friends, Foes & Followers is a GM resource that uses a common format for presenting 2 pages of information about a character. The characters can be used in any way the GM sees fit; as NPC opponents, helpers or even emergency PCs for that unexpected player, making these resources no GM should be without.

This zip file contains 36 fully developed characters, including a yeoman, three barbarians, twelve guildsmen, thief, brigand, ten commoners, five nobles, and three priests.  It replaces FFF 1 (5432 downloads), 2 (4552 downloads) and 3 (4096 downloads).

This updated and revised edition of FFF 1, 2 and 3 contains all the same characters, but upgraded to the format finalized in FFF 12.  It incorporates many changes, big and small, including removing the name from the front page to allow the GM to rename the character to fit his or her needs, updated index numbers, and a full HarnMaster Character Profile.

These 36 FFFs are produced by the Harn Writers Guild (HWG).  They are written by Kerry Mould (31), Michael Bjurshagen (3), Sophia Tribad (1) and Jeremy Baker (1).  They are illustrated by Richard Luschek (32) and Juha Makkonen (4).

Friends, Foes & Followers — Parts 4, 5, 6

April 1, 2017

Part 2 of 15 in the series Friends, Foes & Followers

Friends, Foes & Followers is a GM resource that uses a common format for presenting 2 pages of information about a character. The characters can be used in any way the GM sees fit; as NPC opponents, helpers or even emergency PCs for that unexpected player, making these resources no GM should be without.

This zip file contains 36 fully developed characters, including 11 military, 1 barbarian, 10 guildsmen, 4 unguilded, 4 nobles, 4 priests, 1 mage and 1 non-human. It replaces FFF 4 (4422 downloads), 5 (4581 downloads) and 6 (4876 downloads).

This updated and revised edition of FFF 4, 5 and 6 contains all the same characters, but upgraded to the final FFF format. It incorporates many changes, big and small, including removing the name and nationality from the front page to allow the GM to rename the character to fit his or her needs. Kerry has also updated index numbers and added a full HarnMaster Character Profile.

In response to a request at HârnCon III, Kerry has created two 2pp articles detailing pre-made adventuring groups known as ‘A Company of Adventurers’ (ACOA). These are perfect for convention play or as a sample group for new players.

FFF 5 is the HârnCon III edition and includes two ACOA groups: ‘The Pentacle’ (by John Sgammato & Kerry Mould) and ‘Andel’s Entourage’ (by Andy Gibson and Kerry Mould).

FFF 6 includes nine characters inspired by the Sci-Fi series “Firefly” transposed into the world of Harn as seagoing folk instead of spacefaring folk. Their ship is a 64 foot dak, the ‘Lorkin’ (qv), a medieval type of ship known to us as a cog which—despite its connections to FFF6—can be used separately for any seaborne adventures, perhaps starting with Sail Ho! (qv). ACOA 3, ‘The Crew of the Lorkin’ (by Andy Gibson, Ken Snellings, and Kerry Mould) includes the officers and passengers of the ‘Lorkin’.

FFF 6 also includes three characters inspired by Bernard Knight’s series “Crowner John“, ACOA 4 (by Kerry Mould) groups these into the ‘Agents of the Crown.’

These 36 FFFs are produced by the Harn Writers Guild (HWG). They are written by Kerry Mould (14), John S. Daniel II (12), John Sgammato (6), Ken Snelling (3) and Andy Gibson (1). They are illustrated by Juha Makkonen (24) and Richard Luschek (12).

Friends, Foes & Followers — Uthriem Roliri

October 22, 2008

Part 8 of 15 in the series Friends, Foes & Followers

Uthriem Roliri Edition

This collection of NPCs is meant to complement the Uthriem Roliri article from CGI. The Uthriem Roliri is a brotherhood of human woodsmen. As followers of Siem, the group’s driving purpose is to protect the wilderness and its wildlife. Despite sharing a common body of beliefs and goals, there is considerable diversity among the members.

The goal of this NPC collection is to illustrate that diversity by giving examples of Uthriem Roliri members with different ranks, genders, ages, social status, occupations, religious backgrounds, and locations. The NPCs follow the format of the “Friends, Foes & Followers” series and features illustrations, descriptions, and statistics. The NPCs include:

  • a teenage woodward (Apprentice)
  • a Fyvrian Shek Pvar (Apprentice)
  • a scout for Fur Road caravans and pilgrim groups (Ranger)
  • a cartographer and Salt Route scout (Ranger)
  • a huntsman along the Silver Way (Ranger)
  • a royal forester (Ranger)
  • a bounty hunter who specializes in the undead (Ranger)

Friends, Foes & Followers — Part 11

April 12, 2010

Part 9 of 15 in the series Friends, Foes & Followers

The HârnCon 7 (Kansas City) Edition

Friends, Foes & Followers is a GM resource that uses a common format for presenting 2 pages of information about a character. The characters can be used in any way the GM sees fit; as NPC opponents, helpers or even emergency PCs for that unexpected player, making these resources no GM should be without. With artwork by Richard Luschek, this instalment contains:

  • a jailer
  • an alchemist
  • an apothecary
  • a miller
  • a thespian
  • the child of a guildsman
  • an entertainer (juggler)
  • a sage
  • a tenant officer (reeve)
  • a knight’s page
  • a Navehan priest (assassin)
  • a grey mage

With FFF 11, the layout of the character sheet has been finalized. Some of the changes include: grey header (to save on ink), acknowledgement moved to the illustration side of the page, added a credit for Brent Bailey (editor), added the star rating for the character on the text side of the page, removed the colour headers from the description and adventure hooks to make the document completely black and white, standardized the size of the description and adventure hook boxes.

The largest number of changes are to the stat box, including: new appearance section (including the character’s size, as per HM3 Character 6), new money/valuables section, new other equipment section, new load and encumbrance sections, and a separate section for missile weapons.

The most significant change is a whole new indexing system (included). This makes each character type a single three-digit number. Different characters will be indicated by a letter following the number. FFF 12 follows this format. FFF 1 to 10 will be revised and updated to follow the new format.

Friends, Foes & Followers — Part 12

September 14, 2011

Part 10 of 15 in the series Friends, Foes & Followers

Friends, Foes & Followers is a GM resource that uses a common format for presenting 2 pages of information about a character. The characters can be used in any way the GM sees fit; as NPC opponents, helpers or even emergency PCs for that unexpected player, making these resources no GM should be without. With artwork by Richard Luschek, this instalment contains:

  • a Khuzdul clansman
  • a charcoaler
  • a glassworker
  • a lexigrapher
  • a miner
  • a perfumer
  • a tentmaker
  • a woodcrafter
  • a cartographer
  • a slave
  • a Patrician knight
  • a Jmorvi mage

With FFF 12, some minor changes have been made to the “final” layout introduced in FFF11.  A revised and updated index has been included which explains the new numbering system for FFFs and which now includes the name of every FFF character released to date by HWG including the FFF release number they can be found in.  The header on the text/stat side has been coloured to match the section shown in the index.  The rating system proved too cumbersome and has been eliminated.

On the request of a fan and great supporter of the FFF series, I have also included a twelve page pdf with just the character illustrations so you can use them wherever you like.

It is my intent to re-release FFF 1-11 in this “final” format as soon as possible.
