How many people have historically shown, and how many game tables/rooms would we need?
Cheers, Konnel.

Interesting question being presented here.... Where oh where. I myself have been to at least 4 HarnCons, would like to make another one but where is the question. Canada (BC, Ottawa?), Stateside? I want to go, period. Like Peter suggested Canberra!

There hasn't been one on the US east coast for a while.

Konnel, you're welcome to stay...for a limited time anyway. :D

For a HarnCon, I'd say plan for 4 or 5 tables, 4-6 players plus GM per table. 2 sessions a day, each 4 hours long. 2 days total (Sat/Sun) with a pre-Con session Fri night for early arrivers, a post-Con Sun night drinkies session for late leavers. And a feast at some point (usually Sat night).

All that is fairly traditional.

Actually, given what my local gaming shop is doing, the whole thing could be held on their premises. Including the feast! And booze! (For those that do...)

Y'know, if I had a Con in Canberra, I could probably guarantee about 15-20 locals turning up. :) Count maybe 10 internationals if I were lucky (sadly without the Venerable James :( ), that's a nice number. I don't think I could count on more than that; Australia is a bloody long way from anywhere.
Cheers

And if the exchange rate stays the say, one from the States could REALLY have grand time too!

Actually, it's highly likely the exchange rate will be even more favourable when your Federal Reserve jacks up interest rates next month. :) Lots of dosh will flow out of Aus into the US, ever seeking the Almighty Dollar! :)

Traditionally Harncon has been in summer in the northern hemisphere. This is in the middle of the Australian winter. There can be snow in Canberra in July so an Halean approach would generate goosebumps and frostbites. :x-mas:

The US eastcoast in july sounds much more appealing to me. If I could find a way to get away from family obligations I would certainly visit Harncon 2016 if it was in New York or Boston.

Ah yes, but if it were to be held here in Canberra, I wouldn't hold it in July; it would be more like October or November. That way, you northern types can have one last gasp of spring/summer before the full descent into the horror that is a northern winter.

I know that makes it awkward for you traditionalists who have holidays in July/August but those are the depths of winter here and while our winters are nothing like yours, they can still be pretty miserable.

I am really looking forward to the possibility of going to the next Harncon, as I have just started making maps for Columbia games. I would like to meet members of the Harn community and the folks who I am working with now face to face, plus do some Harnic roleplaying. I was just looking at the price of tickets to Sydney from my home in Seattle, Washington. ACK! ~$2,000.00 round trip. No offense to Leitchy, but I vote for somewhere stateside. Not that my vote should count as much as some of you who have been in the community much longer than me, but I just thought I would put in my 2 pence anyway. East coast, U.S.A sounds nice to me. By the way, I love Australia; I was just there this spring (under circumstances that had nothing to do with vacationing) and I would like to go back...when my bank account is more voluminous.

Generally want to attend HarnCon's, unfortunately down-under is not a possibility at the moment, given the price of tickets, and the requirement that I get at least 4 of them.... I definitely want to do it some day...

So, regardless of what may or may not happen in New Zealand/Australia, would people be interested in a HârnCon in the US this year?

Yes, I would be as well. I'm looking to make some changes this year, and one of them is to open up some time for gaming...

I guess the bigger question is if anyone is interested in hosting.

What about Silicon Valley? Close to airports. If family comes, there's lots to do in San Francisco an hour away. I can look in to prices of hotels and venues for the games.

I could do a small con out of my home, probably four tables inside and space out side under my oak tree. Summers are generally mild here. I have no AC in my house.

Locally we'd have five to seven attendees. What do people usually pay to come to one of these, including airfare, room, and food for three days?

It's hard to find a hotel less than $100/night.

I'll see if I can organize one here in San Jose.
Let us go then, you and I...
