However, I thought we were slated for 2013.

I've got frequent flyer miles and hotel points to burn (sadly not enough for Europe...) so I'm up for a Harn weekend away from home this year.

I think Madison, Austin and Washington would all make great locations. Might be best if we just ran a poll here in February.
I was planning on doing just that in March but if others think February would be better I'm willing.

I think there has been talk of the 2013 Con being in Van for the 10th anniversary for the Con.
Ok, let me get this straight. These guys come in, trash the place, slap Agrik & Larani around, and the most intelligible thing they said was "Zog!"?

That's right. Then I think it was 2014 that they'd suggested KC. *&#@! That means in 2013 I'll have been married 10 years... huh...

I signed up to run a Harn game at Kublacon last May. I had NO sign ups.

I tried again at Pacificon in September, had three sign-ups for a game that called for five or six. Luckily two others showed up who had run in a Cthulu game of mine the day before. I brought Kelestia's beautiful map, all framed, and some material to show off. The game went well and several of the players liked the system. Have no idea if any of them pursued it further.

I'll do it again this summer at both Kublacon and Pacificon.

I believe there are some amongst us who like the idea of being members of a small elite group; Larani forbid the unwashed masses start playing Harn.
I don't believe the folks trying to make a few dollars from manufacturing and selling Harn products feel the same way.

So I'm with Jim on this. Go out amongst the masses and start proselytizing.

Yep that's right. I'm starting to look at various venues around Vancouver for the 10th Anniv HarnCon in 2013. Likely looking at summertime (July-August) for the weekend, but I'm open to suggestions.

I will start a planning thread shortly.

For 2013 I'd suggest maybe time around the 1st/4th of July time frame. We all can celebrate the Holidazes....

A poll has been posted in the Warferret's forum. It will run through February. Please vote for the location that you would be most likely to attend.

Note: Shawn never confirmed Spokane, but I'm assuming that option is still open. If not, the poll may have to be amended.

One other little note about Madison is that it is a short drive to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin where there is a small memorial to E. Gary Gygax should anyone feel like making a pilgrimage to recognize the founder of the FRPG hobby. http://gygaxmemorialfund.com/

I heard from Shawn that his offer to host is still good, but it is actually in Richland, WA (about 2.5 hrs from Spokane) with airport access from Pasco.

I will update the poll to reflect Richland. Please re-vote as needed.

So, assuming we settle on a location soon (the poll ends Mar 1 -- at the moment it's a tie between Austin and Madison), the next question is when?

While I doubt there are many who will try to attend both, I think it would be good to avoid the weekend of LythiaCon (Aug 10-12). Otherwise, any opinions on the best timing to shoot for?

I was looking at the week end of August 17-19. I'll post a poll later on the venue if its Madison.

Also, the average summer temps in Madison are 10-15 degrees F cooler than Austin...

Update: The poll has now closed, with a tie result.

Austin, TX and Madison, WI each got 11 votes (37%) while Richland, WA got 8 votes (27%)

30 people voted. If that's in any way an indication of likely attendance, it is an encouraging sign.

However, with the question of where to hold the con still undecided, it leaves planning in limbo.

So, with a simple vote having failed to produce a choice, any thoughts on how to proceed?

Would it be more productive to arrange a poll for each city with point values?

For instance:

If the 2012 HarnCon were held in (location), how likely would you be to attend?
0. I would definitely not attend.
1. I would be very unlikely to attend.
2. I would be somewhat unlikely to attend.
3. I would be somewhat likely to attend.
4. I would be very likely to attend.
5. I would definitely attend.

This would help gauge the overall probability of turnout for each location, independent of how many votes are cast.

While the voting is underway, it occurs to me that the point values above are going to produce some strange results if not modified. My thought is that negative votes (0-2 above) should have zero value, there's no use in counting "very unlikely" attendance as a positive, for example. Each "Somewhat likely" vote would be the base (1pt each), with "very likely" (2pt) and "definite" (3pt) attendees counting for more. So, if you have two votes in each, the total would be 12

Anyone see a problem with that approach? Different suggestions?
