Dear brethren,

I hereby, with the pompous and bombastic voice of a self-indulgent proud Jarl of Ibanvaal, offer to host IviniaCon II, to be held in 2008 in Sweden, either by intimate candlelight in my thranaal (1), or (2), if you fellow brethren so prefer, as part of a local annual game convention held during Halloween 2008 (first weekend of November).

1) Option 1 (http://www.dotshop.se/ds/contact.php)
IviniaCon II located in Vänga Brunnsnäs, my thranaal located 70 kilometers from Gothenburg (southwestern Sweden, second largest city) and 60 kilometers from the international airport of Landvetter (Gothenburg). Capacity: 25-30 bold naked men (and women). Proposed months: July or August. Let me know if these months are workable for you folks. Worth mentioning should we choose this option, is that we have a beautiful lake very close to our thranaal, and also great ops to experience walks in the forests, etc.

2) Option 2
IviniaCon II l as part of the XXVII edition of Borås Spelkonvent (local famous con), located in the town of Borås, 60 kilometers from Gothenburg, 50 kilometers from the international airport of Landvetter (Gothenburg). Size of Con: Usually 500-600 bold naked men (and women). Date: Halloween 2008

So, folks, if you want me to host this, I will happily do so. Mikael Hegardt will also be part of organizing this event.
And, I'm sure Patrick Nilsson will attend IviniaCon II if me and Mikael runs it.

Let me know your interest levels and what option you folks prefer.

I may consider attending, but require guarantees that I will not be put in irons and held for ransom, being a son of our glorious capital city of Stockholm and not entirely trusting of Gothenburgers.

I'd go for option 1. And a visit to the Viking village you mentioned would be great too!

As the bank manager may draw the line at Vancouver then Ivinai seems doable. Will seem a bit odd - crossing the North Sea in thew wrong direction on a raid!

And you are welcome to take a detour to Norway, and visit the "Steffens armoury" and loghouse.

Steffen, it's difficult to see why you would ever leave that place - it seems idyllic to me.

If time and work allows, I would choose option 1.

Hi Roland (and other interested),
for those who use the airport-hub in Copenhagen it shouldn't be impossible to arrange a visit to Foteviken before or after a Con (I live 30 minutes by car from it). Let's see how things stack up and how many will attend.

Now that my safety has been guaranteed, Option 1 would be my first choice too.

Cool. I'm thinking that based on the fact that most of the attendants will arrive in Sweden via either the Copenhagen or Gothenburg airports, we could rent two mini-buses (one for the Copenhagen-arrivals and another for the Gothenburg arrivals), and by doing so we have solved the logistics to and fro the Con, to and fro Foteviken, and when the Con is closing on the Sunday the both buses take the attendants to their airports.

It could well be the case that I will plan a vacation around the con then. :D

Dear Hrafn-Thorvald, Andy, Gallus :-)

Great stuff!

I can't promise as many supablonde ladies as our ancestors grabbed by their hair in Lindisfarne, but I can promise to do what I can to have some in the scenario(s).

Steffen, are you coming along, proudly bearing the Menglana banner?

Alas

It appears that the Newcastle-Gothenburg ferry stopped running last year, so that's one cheap(ish) option gone for me.

I can only get to Stavanger or Ijmuiden! No good at all  I'll have to investicate alternatives.

Neil

Dear Niel,

Me thinks the cheapest way to Sweden is by any of the economy/stand by tickets you can get (or if you book well in advance also qualifies for cheap price) from Ryanair. Last time I checked a ticket from London (Stanstead) to Gothenburg was 20-30 pounds.

Would love to have you here mate.

I'll do some more checking.

Glasgow is closer for me, and probably a cheaper option (also I hate travelling to London). Alternatively I follow Christophe's plan. Home, Dublin, destination all via RyanAir Newcastle/Dublin/Gothenburg may be as cheap and easy as sdriving to Glasgow, and a lot easier than getting to London.

Neil

Option one would be quite interesting, and the area around Gothenburg is definately within my striking distance, being from Copenhagen and thus Viking land.

I'll hopefully make this - and hopefully be accompanied by other members of the Oxford/London contingent

It would be nice to see some of our Finnish friends join the festivities.

Yes, the Jarenmarkers are most welcome. Let's see if any one of them are attracted to this thread. Ilkka? Juha? I can't offer you sauna but I can offer vodka :-)
