Session 2, Sept 7 2012
The campaign continues where it left off in Nurisel on the morning of Peonu 2nd. Sigmund discusses his missing cousin with his uncle, the Earl of Thabel, with Sigmund promising to help find Huthor. The other topic of discussion was Galen Wasal. The Earl wanted Sigmund to keep him apprised of the situation, but all in all in was a minor interest for Melderyn at this time. It was the Earl's opinion that the people trying to kill Galen might succeed and wanted Sigmund to be careful and not get too involved. It was also theorized that the most likely person behind it all was the new Lord of Alakenos; Herod Nacarn... what they could not fathom is how and why he would kill his own mother. The question was left hanging there...
Later that morning, Galen asks if there is someone or where they could take this vellum letter that Galen Mother gave him to be repaired. Sigmund asked the chamberlain and they were brought to the Earls personal scribe. The parchment was covered in blood and soot and partially burnt, but with a roll of 05 on my part, the scribe was able to clean most of it. The document looked like an acknowledgment from King Torastra of kaldor legitimizing one Galen Wasal as his son. There is no indication to whether this is a forgery or legit. After reading it and giving it to Galen, the scribe took his leave and left quickly... Sigmund figured the Earl would learn of it shortly. The follow discussion was on how to confirm it, whether Galen should even mention it... Sigmund thought that if Galen tried to bring this out, he would soon be killed. Galen agreed and decided to keep the document out of sight for now. Both PC's decided to head back to Kaldor because any answers to the questions would be found there. The trip was uneventful, with one close call on the morning of the 9th of Peonu where a group of Hodori Horseman rode by the PC's while they hid in the woods. They bypassed Geda, not wanting to deal with the Baron again and made Burzyn the evening of the 11th. They grab a room at The Horseman, an Inn on the north side of the Ulmerien (Non-canon). The Innkeeper, Jorn of Cros and a friend informed Galen that a messenger had arrived in the morning looking for him. He was a young man, well dressed and with escort. He did not seem hostile and stated that he had a message to give him. Jorn offered to pass it on when he saw Galen next, but the messenger said he had to give it to him personally. When asked where the messenger went, Jorn said he was still in town. He decided to wait a couple of days to see if you would return as Jorn had told him that when you passed the last time you said you would be back in a couple of weeks. Galen asked if Jorn would send a runner to get this messenger, being curios to what he was about.
The messenger arrived an hour later and delivered a letter into Galen's hands, recognizing him immediately. I should not the Galen is well known in Kaldor as a favorite in the tourneys and also for his freakish height... he stands at 6'6" and is called the "Hru".
This is the contents of the letter. My thanks to HalC, as he gave this to me way back in 2005 while I was discussing this campaign in another thread. I've waited a long time to use it.
"I'm sorry I was too late to save your mother. I discovered only too late that she was in danger. I will say this much though - the reason she was discovered as she was - was because someone found a note to the treasury to pay for certain amenities related to your upbringing. Putting two and two together, I figured out who your father might be. I must confess, you look enough like him from what I remembered of him from my childhood. What I will tell you is this. While I can't claim legitimacy for you on the basis of my own word - despite my being king, I will make you an offer. If you desire - I will pay you a lump sum of 100 pounds. Do with it what you will. I will NEVER admit that we had this conversation. If I hear that you try to make hay of this, I will have you killed quietly and without compassion. But here is what I'd do if I were you. I'd hire some mercenaries, and take a few manors north of Chybisa. If you can take and hold it, I'm sure that I can come to your aid providing that you intend to declare what you capture is for the benefit of Kaldor. Perhaps you have heard of this saying - "failure has no father, but success has many"? If you succeed - I shall award you a barony comprised of those manors you manage to take and hold. If you capture all of Chybisa, then you will have earned the right to be Earl of Chybisa. Oh, one more thing. I would make certain that you never bring up that you may be a Tor bastard. Let the men find out on their own..."
The letter had the desired effect, with Galen taken by surprise. After a bit of thought he let Sigmund read it, which I was then rewarded with a very shock reaction n from him. Galen asked to think upon it and gave his answer the next morning, accepting the gift and terms. The session ended at 1AM with the players trying to decide what to do. Take a Barony, an Earldom, a Kingdom? Who to ask for help? Kaldor, Meldryn? Or maybe just leave altogether and head for Chelemby? Even though both PC's are friends and have high loyalties with each other, both have different ideas and agendas... it's getting interesting considering that it's been 9 years since we played last.
_________________ Ok, let me get this straight. These guys come in, trash the place, slap Agrik & Larani around, and the most intelligible thing they said was "Zog!"?
