OK - here goes.
My players - Orbaalese from Genheim - are on a mission to Golotha trying to track down a missing niece of the Lord of Arathel. In my campaign the Cyeens have already begun trying to reestablish a colony in the Afarezirs. This colony, led by a son of Lord Cyeen (he has spares) was attacked by a black hulled warship, most of the settlers killed and some taken as thralls. The 'raiders" had help from local Nolgind Kubora. They figure that the raiders may have sold the neice to Golothan slavers.
Their secondary mission is trying to find out about the items they discovered in an abandoned Khuzan wacth post used as a hideout by bandits (Harn Pottage). They knew that they had Khuzdul items but needed to find out more. So...off to Golotha they go. THere they meet up with one PC's (Bulvae Keldarj, a Pelean satia-mavari) old master, who resides in Golotha. He directs them to a friend at the temple of Save-Knor who he thinks can help.
Anyways, the upshot is that they wander around town visiting slavers making a hash of their investigations. They then decide that they need some local currency so go to a jeweller to get a deal on their Khuzan loot - to find out what it is worth, and while they take a few of the old coins (including one crown), they let slip that they have "a heap more".
So, after blundering about asking questions and getting noticed, and letting slip that rootless foreigners in town have a stash, they finally figure something is amiss when they twig (a CS Awareness check made at a big minus because I thought that they were stupid) that they are being followed. Actually, followed by a crowd more like. The Lia Kavar are watching them (the Jeweller let them know), the mercantylers guild is watching them (they are asking questions around town about influential guild members such as Rylen of Laleld) and the authorities are watching them (they must be interesting because everyone else in town in watching them).
And to make things even better, they are no closer to finding out anything of the whereabouts of Lord Cyeen's missing niece.
I can see flames, hot irons, shackles and an Arena in their future unless they come up with something next session.
Sometimes being a GM is so much fun
