I was finally able to get copies of the Ivinia, Mengelana, and Shorkyne supplements. I am absolutely in love. I have decided to get off the island. I want maps and information on Lythia proper. What's more, for me, the kingdom level modules are about as low as I want to go in terms of detail. Maybe some major settlements, too, but in truth, I want some room to make my own mark on the world I run games in. I understand that some people love having every stalk of wheat mapped out. Great. More power to you. But as for me, what I want is more regional and kingdom level materials for the rest of lythia... Hepekeria, Byria, Dalkesh, Anzeloria, Hacherdad, Karejia. Maybe even Mafan and Chogoro. Or... Hurisea and Trierzon! I want places to go. Tales of Thrilling Adventure!

Totally agree with you, D-Man!

We are working on this .... while it *is* taking a long time, the Venarive Module should give you a lot of what you are asking for here...

I await with baited breath.

How many people here would love to see 3d art based on the actual topographical style maps drawn of say, Kaldor and other locations? There are art packages on the market now such as VUE that can take topographical representations and make terrain for those locations easily enough. What would need to be done is create a grey-scale map of sorts where each height represented on the map had its own color, such that you build a black and white (greyscale) map with white being the highest elevations and black being the lowest (or vice versa).

I've thought about creating 3D and topographic maps for quite some time now, but it's not as easy as it seems. The key is the heightmap, and getting all those heightlevels right and to look realistic is something that I never achieved.

I think 3D is best used for regional and location maps. As height information is already in the maps in the form of height lines, it would be really simple to create a 3D model from them, if they are available as splines (.ai for example). If someone can provide this, I'd give it try. Anyone into 3D and interested in creating a library of harnic 3D assets?

Greetings, Andreas Hartmann

Hi,

I am also someone with love for 3D and Harn. So I am more interested in the interactive side.
Currently I am in the third year of my 10 year plan to create a Harn CRPG  .

So I do have the equipment (Cinema4D R11, Vue 7 Infinite, 3D Coat, TextureMaker, Grome Prof, ...).
Sadly I am lousy artist with only very less time (Thats the reason for 10 years plan).

But it would be interesting to share modells, textures and other assets.

Hmm, 3D and Harn seems to be a German speciality :D

Let's give it a try, then. I suggest starting with some lokal map features. I also own a licence of C4D and have been working as a 3D pro for several years now, most of it in games.

Problem is that I'm pretty preoccupied work-wise, so things might move slowly. We also need some experts that can give us concepts of typical medieval housings and other reference material. Anyone interested?

P.S.: As you say you are a lousy artist _and_ own a small fortunes worth of graphical equipment, what kind of business are you in? :-)

First of all:
Before we are going to hijack this thread I have opend a thread in the Crafters section.

Now to answer your questions:

I am a software developer by heart (but coding is something I can only do as ahobby) and currently work as a project lead for a team that implements a pascal like programming language with its editor. Something like VisualStudio.

But I am also interested in 3D since quite some time. And with the time you simply start to collect all these tools.
I have also started to build up quite some refernces material. And an other advantage is that I live near a museum/theme park that has also a small medieval frankonian village with original, restaurated farm buildings ! So I do have quite some photos already.
But I also own some books regading the items of daily live, clothing and so on.

Regarding 3D I want to create my personal 3D Harn RPG (some hybris here!).
At first I planned to do Trobridge Inn as a scenario because there is so much going on there.
I have modeled the manor there (exterior only). But I skipped it because the AI would be to complicated to start with.

Second I started with Jedes and modelled Caer Jedes (exterior and interior, but without furniture).
But the second part of the adventure is still due and so I finally decided to go for something even simpler.

So currently I plan to do Falkath in 2D. I have the 'manor' (exterior), a height map of the lokal area and some of the main characters already done in 3D.
Currently I am working on the WorldEditor.

Good thing is that you work with C4D also, so if you are interested in some of my models i can provide them.

Any more discussion better though the thread in the crafters section.

If the rectangular maps are in a suitable format electronically, one should be able to join them together in one file with one or more of the modern graphic packages and then select an appropriate rectangle to print out for gaming purposes. Thus is a particular area of interest was in the NW corner of one of the canon maps, one could group the map to the north, the one to the west, and the third to the NW in one file then make one's one rectangular map overlaying parts of the four canon maps.
