Armouries ... Viking Villages ... you guys are making me look bad! ;)

Sadly, Vancouver has no such venue to offer (but HârnCon will be held in a pub! :D).

Cheers,
Brian

Would be good to coordinate the arrival of the British invasion if that's possible - what sort of arrival departure times are we looking at?

Good Idea!

Are you volunteering?

A quick check shows that for the budget airlines it's either EasyJet from Stansted or bmi from Leeds Bradford, Glasgow or Edinburgh. The last three are all an acceptable drive distance for me. Stansted would mean I'd be cathcing the Newcastle Stansted flight first.

Stansted would (I presume) be easiest for you guys. Alun and I could do Leeds Bradford.

I'd like to get there early (early Friday afternoon at the latest). Perhaps we should start another thread to discuss this.

Neil

I'll do more research & get back to you.

Viking village = well done Mikael & Anders :D

Certainly flights to Copenhagen open up some more options for me so that's great. There seems to be a train from the airport across the bridge to Malmo. Would a bus/train connection from Malmo work? Or could enough of us arrive at Copenhagen within the same window so a hire car is the more economic option?

Copenhagen is also good for me as there are direct flights from Biarritz.

Since as far as I know I'll represent the French invasion all by myself, I'd like to piggyback on the British one. Like Neil, I favour an early arrival and can contribute to the various rental costs if we can synchronise our timing.

So not in the tents pictured in Google-Earth? Oh well, I suppose I could compromise.
I would recommend people looking at Google-earth as there's a big cluster of photos over this location (which is often a good sign) and show what awaits.

I suppose we can make an exception to those willing to live the life of a Viking commoner  :).

No - that's fine - really, no, I mean it, I wouldn't want to cause a problem ...

IIRC, you can actually live there (semi)permanently, if you build your own house and adhere to the rules. Last time I visited there was a Norweigan man who had moved there and built a house to live in.

I'd love to get a copy of those rules then they could be nailed to atree outside that pirate settlement off the coast from Tormau.

What else to they nail to trees in that pirate settlement off the coast from Tormau?

No, on second thoughts, don't answer that, I don't want to know!

So ... it looks like we have a date and location. It is fixed now, isn't it guys? Where will we play, by the way - actually in the village?

What would be helpful now is any web links to accomodation or any local recommendations.

The sort of questions I'm working through are:
Is the apartment solution local or further afield (i.e. could we walk from one to the other?)
Where's the nearest source of lunch/dinner?
Is Malmo a realisitc alternative for accomodation or should we aim for more local?

Any informed views on these would be welcome otherwise I'll just start hammering google.

Thanks

Alun

Good questions all of them - I got the quote from Foteviken last Friday, and I will process them today or this evening. I'll try to set up a website this evening also which contains all details, but one thing I can clarify right away is that there are apartments available for rental at the grounds of the museum, and they seem quite price-worthy.

Yes

Thanks Mikael

I, for one, will be booking flights (and accommodation) as soon as you publish all of the details.

Guys,
it's a pleasure to do this, all the more when the work is appreciated.

I've talked with Anders B for an hour now, and I have started the work on a website that will give more information - I need to take a break for some hours to do some garden work (this is the first weekend with good weather this spring) but the website will be ready this evening, and after being reviewed by Anders it will be officially released...

A cost estimate is that costs for living (part in a four-person apartment), basic food etc will be around 1200-1500SEK (80-100GBPS) per person for the whole weekend (Friday evening to Saturday afternoon). This includes an one hour guided tour of the village.

What we need now is to understand how many who are planning to attend - we need to be 20 attendees or more to get economy in this.

Also, we need people who are prepared to run adventures on Friday evening (1900-2400) and during Sunday (0900-1500). Saturday is taken care of by Anders, and I think that we are looking at something really outstanding!

More on this when Anders has talked to his team.

Best regards /Mikael

Alun (Gallusgames), Christophe (high rolling Roland de Las Vegas  ) and I have been discussing attending and (hopefully) meeting each other at the airport.

Scenarios?

If I get working I should have one (possibly two) six person scenarios ready by August. Count 'The Pit and the Pendant' as a certain and 'Byrians & Kingfishers' as an outside possibility.

I'm planning to attend, and mostly likely arriving from Stansted. Hopefully I'll be able to join Alun, Chrisstophe and Neil there.

Newcastle-Stansted-Copenhagen was an option for me,

But Newcastle-Gatwick-Copenhagen is a lot cheaper.

I'll be happy to run 'Heart of Darkness' on the Friday Evening for those who didn't play it in Leeds; and hope to have 'The Deeper Dark' (for those that have completed 'Heart') ready in time to play either Sunday morning or evening (or both if there was sufficient demand).

I'm intrigued by how Anders is going to keep us all content through all of Saturday, but if it gives me a chance to play rather than GM, that's fine by me.

It is very much appreciated. Thank you both Mikael and Anders for your efforts.

I will attend. As Neil said, we are looking to arrive in a group to rationalise our accomodations and car rental costs. For the air travel, I wasn't able to find a lowcost because of the dates, but I have found an interesting rate on a standard carrier. However, I have to confirm this price fast.

I will attend, and possibly also bring Beate, my wife. And perhaps a assortment of weapons armour for a short demonstration for those of you who have not handled it before

Now that would be really cool! Perhaps you are interested in coordinating this with Foteviken? I'm quite sure they would love your stuff!

BTW, will Beate be playing also if she attends?

Guys,
the web-site is ready and will be reviewed by Anders tomorrow, and then released. I'm in a bit of a hurry to get this published since we're going on holiday with big family thing (grandparents, cousins etc) from Tuesday to Friday. I'll sneak my laptop with me in order to not be completely out of touch. Now where should I hide it so my wife doesn't find it :).

Let me run a few numbers through you to see what you say:
1. Registry fee will be 90 Euro for all three days. This includes wireless internet access, a big conference room, a guided tour of the village and basic food from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.
2. Cost for accommodation - it is possible to rent cabins with room for four persons for 725SEK per night and cabin.

What do ye say about that?

Best regards /Mikael

Sounds fair to me. Aside from the air ticket to Copenhagen, car rental has to be factored in for a global budget, but if the car and accomodation can be shared between 4 people, the total sum could be in fact rather cheap.

One thing does worry me: what do you mean by "basic food"? (visions of bowls of gruel come to mind  )

Skause, dried or pickled herring, bread and ale?

Neil

ps Apparently Skause was popularised in Liverpool by Scandinavian seamen and was anglicised to scouse!

I make that just less than £200 for the weekend plus air fare and car hire, so it seems pretty good value to me.
