Gantt? Somehow related to that chap who invented the Gantt-schedule for project management? Oh, and welcome by the way. :)

Actually, they're called Gantt charts, although they are a method of scheduling.

Pick the professional project manager... :D

Whether or no Ed's related to THAT Gantt, I don't know.

I found this forum after listening to Pete talk about all the wonderful contributers and fans here during one of our gaming sessions. You see, I was intrigued to discover that there are people as rabid as he is about Harn. He's such a fanboy.

Hmmh, sounds like Niccolò Machiavelli describes the job of a GM... ;)

I guess this presentation is long overdue...

I'm swedish, 28 years of age and has played RPG's since the mid-80s. My introduction to Hârn took place earlier this year and so far it's been very interesting with a campaign that is (quite) low on magic and hack&slash.
The campaign was meant as a short interlude between some D&D sessions, but has been going on for some time now. Otherwise it's been mostly 3E D&D the past few years; before that, some Warhammer FRP.

I also have a plan of running an Ars Magica campaign some day, but have been leaning on running it in Hârn instead, with the same kind of setup as in Ars Magica (Chantries instead of Covenants and all that). But that'll be much later...

Hi, I've been reading the posts on this forum for a while now, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I first started roleplaying about 20 years ago, but stopped for many years. This summer I purchased HarnWorld and Chivalry and Sorcery to find a system I would like to GM. Harn won hands down, and I played my first trial game this weekend and my players really liked it,even with my flipping through the rules constantly.
I'd just like to add that the work produced by the fans is of an incredible quality and very inspiring.

Welcome, John Norman! It's always good to have another Canadian Harniac join us, especially one from Southern Ontario.

Hello, been lurking for a few months, but have decided to come out. ;)

I first heard of Harn in ads in Dragon back in uh.. 1985ish? (oh god, I'm getting old.. :( ) I haven't roleplayed regulary for years but I occasionaly buy the odd system/world to read and keep in touch. Finally got around to buying HarnWorld a few months ago and found this forum through CGI's website. This was about a week before NRC announced his split with Colombia.

I was very lucky in that someone here mentoned that MilSims (A mailoreder games shop gere in Oz) was having a sale on HarnMaster around this time. I bought the rules, Mengalna and Orcs, thinking I didn't want the rest. By the time I realised my mistake the sale was over so I've been raiding the local game shops and placed an order from CGI including the back issues of HQ and most of what was on Gameplan. :D

I have also downladed most of what is avalible from S&S and Lythia.com. To all the authors and webmasters: Please try not to be put off by the dispute between Nick and Colombia. The content and layout of all material is exceptional and much appriciated. Thank you. (However you are now making me consider buying a printer!)

I have been a fan of Harn since 1985?. Found the old Columbia games site on a random search about 2 years ago, and have been reading the forum for about a year. I always tweaked certain HM rules that didn't seem realistic or playable, and was real exited to see a forum of like-minded people for this.

I had first heard about Hârn when I played dnd back in the 80s as a kid (also from ads in Dragon mag). My brother had bought Ivinia and I remember being impressed with the quality of the product and the level of detail in the handbook.
Now that I've become interested in rpg again, I'm setting up a pbem campaign with my former gaming mates. I remembered Hârn, bought HW and HP and now want everything else that goes with it. I found this forum through Hârnlink.

I have been playing some sort of RPG for the last 20+ years. I (as I assume most) cut my teeth on Dungeons and dragons, but was introduced to HM1 in the mid 80s and fell in love. I ran a campaign for a couple friends and they loved the system as well. We've drifted to other systems a few times, but we always seem to come back to Harnmaster. We base our fantasy gaming in a world we've developed over the last 15 years. The world of Harn is awesome in its detail and realism, but we like things a shade more fantastic. I'm glad to have the oppertunity to utilize this board as it is an invaluable resource for me.

I was hunting Harn PbEMs, I post occasionally on the Yahoogroups list and wasn't even aware this one existed. I followed the links from Warflail's marvellous HarnLink page.

Still looking for a PbEM!

Hi

My name is Peter Rosengren-Wallin and I found this site while searching for harn material etc. I have been playing in harn since 1989 to and fro but untill now I never tried to be a GM in harn. I have been using the harn rules for my campaigns i medival Whales since 1996 with some extra aspects from Ars Magica.

Harn is my favourite RPG to play and I am starting to enjoy my GM entry as well (but in the begining it felt like tabu to read more about the world than I had discovered through playing).

My GM has always been a good source of advise but this site is very good as well. And it have helped me to a lot of good material and thoughts about the harnworld that has influenced my campaign. My only trouble is time - my campaign is in 665, some years before the salt war, so I have to adjust and adapt the material a little more.

Does somebody know of material from this timeperiod? It would be fun to read and be inspired by, especially from a Thardic point of view (since I am always thinking like my kaldorian knight - the loyal and struggling Urien Ubael). I am happy for any help I can get.

Hello Everyone,

Well, I am not new to Harn or to the forum, but I thought it would be polite for me to introduce myself.

My name is Kerry Mould. I first encountered Harn WAYYYYYY back in the late '80s as a high school kid. I bought Cities of Harn becaue it had the coolest maps of fantasy cities. I used the maps in my (ahem) AD&D campaigns. After I graduated from high school, I drifted away from role-playing though I continued to collect rpg books. I joined the Canadian Air Force as an officer and was posted to just outside Vancouver. There I was introduced to Sentry Box West games and Imperial Hobbies, two game stores where I spent a lot of money.

Several years later, I ended up in Manitoba. There, I got to know Pendragon games and its grumpy owner John Mansfield. I became a regular customer of his store. I was mainly collecting Sci-Fi stuff in those days, Megatraveller and WEG Star Wars mostly. One day I came in the store and John had a copy of HarnManor on display. Curious, I bought it.

I fell in love with the detail of HarnManor and it twigged something. A bit of a packrat, I never throw anything away. I dug through all my old rpg stuff and uncovered Cities of Harn. That got me obsessed. Over the next couple of years, I bought everything available and haunted E-Bay buying up what I was missing.

In 2000, I got in contact with Patrick Nilsson. I had some ideas for fan articles and since Swords and Shields was THE site, I went to him.

I started off with my article on the Lady of Paladins fighting order. From there, I started writing manors for Patrick. Patrick had already been working for CGI making maps, so when he became the coordinator for HarnQuest, he asked me to write for him. I wrote Selvos for HQ. I have since gone on to write several more articles both for CGI and for release on the net. I also wrote a huge expansion for my Selvos article which took about four months.

This spring I attended HarnCon in Vancouver and got to meet many of the people I have known through the net and of course the creator himself, N. Robin Crossby. It was a blast. However, after that I was a bit burnt out. Writing the Selvos expansion and HarnCon had wore me down.

I was also in the midst of moving. As a Captain in the Air Force, I go where the Canadian government tells me. Right now I am on the Golan Heights between Israel and Syria with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force as a peacekeeper. My job is Engineering Officer in charge of the infrastructure modernization project.

Now that I am settled into my new job and after about a four month hiatus from writing I have found my muse again. I am busy writing Harn products again.

Having worked for CGI (and been asked to write more for them) and having been recruited by NRC himself to do a project in Shorkyne, I found myself in an awkward position earlier this summer. As a result I have publicly declared myself neutral in the whole debate.

I don't write for money. I hate it when other people change my work. I want to write what I chose. So, therefore I have decided to just give my work away free on Lythia.com (Peter L. has been kind enough to host my "scribblings").

I read the forum every day. I post when I feel there is something I can contribute, but I don't feel the need to add my voice to every subject. Sometimes I watch a topic for days or weeks before I pipe up. Thus my low post count despite being on the HarnForum almost from the beginning. I was also a member of the Auran forum and am still a member of HarnList.

I haven't been around as long as some of the old folks ( :p like Patrick) but as someone who contributes regularly, I pipe up when I have something I think needs saying.

So that is me.

TTYL

Kerry

PS - Amazingly enough, though I have been collaborating with Patrick and Richard for three years now, we have never met in person or even talked on the telephone. Such is the power of the internet.

Greetings Harnlings

I have been involved in role playing for 20+ years. Started with D&D at age 13. Before I left high school I was buying Harn. For almost 15 years I owned everything CG published (on harn, Yes I have all the original encyclopedia Harnica articles) Anyway HM1 was the best RPG I have ever seen. (although in the last 10 years I haven't looked elsewhere for much) I love to bring the world alive and Harn is the best background for doing so.

My reputation has been as a GM has been that I am a bit details oriented but I find that the players start to feel and think like locals when they start to know their way around.

When I am a player I have an alarming tendency to counter-strike when in trouble.

Greetings.

I am a Harn GM (never been a player) and currently am running my second serious campaign using the Harn 2nd edition rules and a world of my own devising. I've been a roleplayer for great many years but got aquantied with Harn only some three years ago, been an avid fan since then. THe flexibility of the Harn rules is quite like anything I've ever seen, and as I am a bit of a reality freak I don't think I'll ever use any other set of rules (in my campaigns).

I found this forum while I was browsing through a link-page searching for good material for house-rules and for my world. Sooooo....here I am then.

Yours truly

DOTW
