There is no ninja smiley on the HârnForum. This should be rectified at the earliest possible juncture. ;)

I've been lurking ever since Auran went West.

Having a second child really puts a crimp in your spare time...

Actually, I imagine having a first child puts the crimp on, and a second merely squeezes a bit harder. :D

Not having any myself, I'm only speculating, of course. 8)

<sigh> Unfortunately, I'm absolutely certain I'm not a father. Unlike Nick, I wish I was, but it's beginning to look like I never will be...

I first played in a version of Harn more than 15 years ago, in a campaign that used a friend's home-grown (and rather well done) class-and-level system. He had made some pretty substantial changes to the world (much more high fantasy, his own religions, etc.), much to the annoyance of another member of the group who also collected all the material.

Then, about 5 years ago, the GM of the group at that time burned out and his campaign fell apart. I volunteered to set up a game, and tried to do a post-magical-holocaust campaign a la "Ariel" by Boyett. That didn't go so well, so one of the members of that group, who also played in the original Harn campaign lobbied for a Harn campaign.

I bought all the material available at that time (mostly photocopied stuff) and have run a campaign since, using GURPS. Despite a few mistakes, it has gone rather well.

WooHoo, member number 500

I have been playing Harn for about 10 years, GM'ing for the last 7 years. Started collecting and GM'ing when our group's GM moved back to England. I now own everything article except Telemur  and btw have ordered everything on gameplan :scared:

I have been lurking here for years and was on an earlier email list as a lurker.

Based in Canberra, Australia

Don't expect too many posts from me. I tend to read the list at work, in my lunch break, my out of work free time taken up in tring to keep my game planning one week ahead of the PCs for two groups, one Harn one Cthulhu. My Harn group plays every second week, my Cthulhu group every week (but I only GM a third of the time). Being recently married and recently purchasing a new house has also severely cut into the preparation time (and cash flow) so most of the time I wing it with a short scribbled set of notes as to major events to occur in the evening's play. Now if I can just get my wife to play....

Gotta go, next session starts in 3 hours and I have a manor to prepare and adventure therein to organise. We are doing the Kanday-Rethem-Tharda thing. The Rethemi civil war is approaching and the PCs are Kandians working for the King (or is it the brother :?:  ) trying to see what advantage they can get, and can they take out Hyen in the turmoil and would anyone else care if they did?

Congratulations and welcome! :)

With 500 members, we really top the expectations, or better said the ones I had.
Now, if everyone of you would preorder Trierzon? Pleeeease! ;)

I have been hanging around here for a while, but I rarely give my 2d worth, just lazy, I guess. I (we) have been gaming for 15-16 years but was introduced to Harn only a couple of years ago -- mainly due to persistent rumours that Harn was the 'supremum' of any fantasy game. Fortunately, the gameshop in Helsinki has pretty much all of Harnic Canon that is in print. (That may be one of the reasons why Finns are fairly well represented here. :P And we do have credit cards, so the order-by-WWW is not as big a problem. )

Our group -- which is quite small -- has been plagued by members spending fair a bit of time abroad. More recently, some of us have gotten kids, so we don't play very often, which is kind of drag. And since we don't meet that often, a good portion of the gaming turn into general $#@! sessions -- which is not completely negative matter.

As to Harn, it has met the expectations quite well. One of the difficulty is that there are quite much detail to bear in mind during the game. So far, we have only played this on-going game: a murder mystery in Tonot with a flavour of medieval mining techniques and legislation, Kaldorian political dynamics, and the occassional scenes of plain violence. The players seem to maintain the ideals of our era and have had difficulties in adopting the arrogant and elitistic views of the nobles. They try to remain morally impeccable which I of course challenge all the time.

I have been thinking of moving the campaigns to Shorkyne, because there I would have more latitude as to making things up. I think too much of British Isles when I think of Harn

Hi!

I just created my first Hârnmaster character last weekend and soon will be playing him. I found the forum in search of a 3rd edition charactersheet or spreadsheet. Hope the one that announced his one will answer my mail. :-)

So if you got any further questions  ask!

Oliver.

No, we're not! There are quite some Germans on this board! IIRC there is also another one from Berlin...

P.S.: Your avatar is cool, too!

I had joined up last year, but then stopped coming to view the posts here and then I was chatting to Algared and he told me bout it and that I should join and I discovered I had already singed up about 6 months ago

I vaguely remember visiting this forum at times in the yonder past. Then I forgot all about it until I found my fingers once again typing "www.harnforum.com" on the Explorer. Was it fate? Was it destiny? Was it a fault in my nervous system? Only the gods (and a few Savorya) know.

Just in case you too want to know: it was probably the arrival of HM3 and the new highly skilled (and psi-heavy) characters, although I am not ruling out the possibility of a neural failure.

Well, here I was again, and decided not to leave again before tormenting you with a few posts... Let's see how many this "few" will turn out to be.

My name's Scott Burkhardt, resident of the thoroughly conflicted state of Maryland, specifically the average little surburban town of Bel Air. (As for the conflicted part, just take a look at MD's role in the US Civil War)

I've been a gamer for over 20 years, as I started in 1980. I started with AD&D and Squad Leader, with the occasional foray into miniatures gaming. I've expanded into Advanced Squad Leader, AD&D 2nd and then 3rd Edition, GURPS, Settlers, Star Trek RPG (FASA, LUG and Decipher), numerous CCG'S (Decipher's Star Tek a primary one), Battletech (board and miniatures) and other damn games too numerous to count. It became obvious I was spending WAYYYY to much money on games, so when a bunch of other gamers opened a game store nearby, I bought in. (Saved lots of money on games, but ending up buying even MORE!) The store is now closed, due to quite a few reasons.

In addition, I've run/staffed/helped at a number of conventions, gaming and otherwise. Strangely enough, I enjoy running game cons, but not playing or game mastering at them. This is mainly due to the fact that I;m a social gamer; I LOVE to sit and debate points of minutae with people, regardless of the genre or system.

I first picked up Harn in the mid '80s, tempted as others have mentioned by the ful page Dragon ads. I've played/dabbled eve since, although of late, I've been pretty inactive.

I found the forums through the CGI website.

My screen name is an old one, from my second go-round (this would be my third go-round) at on line activities; I was dubbed "The Bartender" by a friend when he was on line reading a forum and came upon a question about mixed drinks which I knew the answer to. (Worked at a liquor store part time at that point.)

I have avoided the Harn forum because generally I dislike web based fora compared to Newsgroups or Mailing lists. Just a Dinosaur I suppose.

I decided to come here after Jeremy's posting a link to the Forum about the NRC/CGI dispute so I thought I might as well stick around and see what the good people of Web based harnland were like
