Virtually all military occupations in HM3 have at least one weapon skill that is normally a specialty. For instance, the Feudal Yeoman has Falchion/5. Given that falchion is a specialty of the "sword" skill, does that mean a yeoman has "sword" skill as well? I would assume that, given the rule on page Skills 2, a specialty may only be opened if the basic skill has ML40. So...does that mean the yeoman has sword at ML40?

Also, the rule states that a character may select ONLY one specialty when reaching ML40, yet it later says that "a character may declare any number of specialties." Isn't that a contradiction?

Yeoman has the speciality shortsword/4 and sword has an OML of 3. The way I look at it is if the players SB is less than 10 (in this case), they haven't got skilled enough to specialise, so just have the sword skill and when their skill increases to ML40, they must specialise in shortsword. If their SB is 10 to 13, I give them ML40 in sword and if the SB is 14 or more, then I give them OML as their sword skill; in both of these cases shortsword ML is SB4.

This has been discussed in another thread (which I haven't found :? ). Basically the multiple specialities was accepted, with some uncertainty on how often they could be opened.
