I've come back to Lythia after a few years in the wilderness (Firefly, DnD(!), Tekumel etc), and am thinking of resuming our campaign with a bit of Bognor's Folly. I reckon it will work very well with our group, whyo have a nce mix of skills, including herblore etc.

However, I'm concerned about one thing - we have a pretty good Peleahn S-P in the party, and what's to stop him just burning everything he doesn't like to ashes? He's done this before :)

Can anyone suggest countermeasures?

Thanks

Fire retardant sap or area effect explosion when set on fire that is larger than his range.
Or like our Australian bush, things grow better with a bit of burn off!

My counter measure would be to let him do it and finish adventure early. :D

And then the next one....and the next.... He/she may learn to pace their interventions to contribute to the drama of the game after this...

Well, Bognor's Folly is set in the Anoth Delta, which is described as a place where "rain and fog seem to be interspersed only with periods of clinging humidity. Nothing stays dry for long in this dank wilderness." You could probably justify making it harder for things to burn. The Peleahn may well try to burn everything anyway -- does the character have pyromania as a psychological disorder?

There are two very powerful entities featured in the adventure, neither of which would be happy with a fire starter. Remember, the whole island counts as a natural Fyvrian sanctum, which means a Peleahn is working with a tertiary convocational penalty right off the bat (-20, as I recall). Furthermore, the GM is free to impose "other Fyvrian effects" (see Bognor's Island 3, sidebar). One of those might be additional fatigue from spell casting, based on the convocational modifier. He could eventually be very tired, and once he goes to sleep, he'll likely be a primary target for Valdras.

However, the real test would be if he starts trying to burn things within Bognor's sphere of influence. Bognor's a *lot* more powerful than a single PC, and he doesn't like fire. If the PC doesn't take the hint, you could freely unload all manner of horrific effects on him.

Thanks you for those responses. Now that I think about it, he hasn't got a hope :)

I'm really looking forward to do this. It's rather unusual and should be a great challenge to the PCs and the GM.
