Hi all,

I am hoping that there are some board gamers amongst you who are also into medieval history, so can you recommend any decent medieval-themed board games? Historical would be best but if not, something pretty close (i.e. not a D&D board game)

Here's one that looks interesting but it's French I think (although I also believe there is an English edition coming out this year).

"Kingmaker" by Avalon Hill, published wayback in the 1980's.
Noble houses, mercenaries, alliances. Not too difficult in the mechanics department.
Finding copy might be difficult but not impossible.

Thanks for your reply but I'm already aware of "Kingmaker". It was a very good game I played a lot as a teenager back in the day. I'm tempted to try and pick it up on eBay but if possible I'd rather try something I haven't played before. It doesn't even need to be new as long as it's available somewhere. I was reading on BGG that "Empires of the Middle Ages" was re-released recently and it does sound interesting and is one I have never played but I was hoping to hear about some I've not heard much about.

Columbia Games produces a few that might be of interest: Crusader Rex, Hammer of the Scots, and Richard III.

Could this be the most worthy successor to Kingmaker?

Wars of the Roses: Lancaster vs York

I'm very impressed by the high production qualities and reviews so far. Anyone played it?

While not particularly historical, I love playing Cathedral - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_(board_game)
