Spells and farm animal question....

#1 Post by GarryHamlin » Sat Aug 12, 2017 11:18 am

Odd question for an upcoming scenario I'm setting up. A certain shek-pvar with a number of spells to cast in succession plans to use animals as a vehicle for spreading out his fatigue with a variant of the Energy Pool spell (Neutral III) that no longer requires touch to average that fatigue amongst the six targets of the spell. At short notice, however, instead of six of the same type of animal (as intended) he unexpectedly ended up with a menagerie: two cows, one bull, two horses and a pig, all of which he intends to have penned in close proximity to each other and himself while he's in the process of casting spells. My question, not having an agricultural background: if you keep two cows, a bull, two horses and a pig in close proximity with each other, are they going to play nicely together or is the group likely to interact in ways that a city slicker like me (and the shek-pvar) would not have foreseen?

In my experience, it will be the horses who will be freaked out, likely by the antics of the bull. He will almost certainly be trying to 'interact' with the cows, and will get annoyed at the other interlopers. The horses will panic and cause mayhem until the bull gores them. The pigs will be like 'whoa, intense dude.'

In short, not a great idea. OTOH, if they are segregated by type in separate pens, even adjacent, all should be well. The bull will still snort and the horses will not like it, but no one will injure another. 8)

I agree. The cows, horses, and pigs are likely to all be okay with each other. The bull will be the problem. If was an ox, on the other hand, it might be okay.

Of course, the ox would rather have back what's rightfully his in exchange for a promise of good behavior.

Now that's just nuts.

The major problem I foresee is minstrels and skalds queueing up to formulate a punch line......

A shek pvar and his menagerie walk into an Inn. The spell caster tries to put his creatures on the largest table.

"what have you brought them in for?" Asks the Innkeeper.

Taking his cue, the arcanist replies: "Thought we would see if you had an energy pool table."

A Shek Pvar and his menagerie go looking at the lake. A fisherman asks what he's doing?

The arcanist replies: "I'm searching for the energy pool".

I was impressed by the post title. It conjured up a number of visions...some quite unsettling...

Where they've always been of course. In the salons and parlours of Tashal, protesting amidst the canapés.
