Uldien article

#1 Post by gmkeros » Wed Mar 15, 2017 7:59 pm

Hey, how exactly would we go about reporting errors on the website. I have been writing on the forum, but that doesn't feel quite right.

I just noticed that the Uldien article and the connected FFF articles seem to be corrupted. At least for me. Can someone corroborate that?

I'm sure Leitchy will see this and take steps.

Sometimes you just need to download it twice. It's happened to me when I'm using multiple web pages or applications (Usually note the second download is quite a bit larger than the first partial).

The downloads are both fine. As Mike says, sometimes you just have to try a couple of times.

I downloaded the Harn Pottage 3 colour maps about four times and it said the file was invalid. Fifth time lucky!

These kinds of problems are really frustrating because there's often nothing I can do except advise people to clear their browser cache, try a different browser, try a different machine... none of which makes people very happy. :(

In this particular case, I seem to have the same problem as you; it downloads about 18MB of data then stops, resulting in a problem. So I've extracted the PDF from it's original zip file (I have a full backup of all files at home, just in case), and I ran the PDF through a reduction process that flattens images, discards unused objects and all without reducing image quality or clarity. Try downloading Harn Pottage III again, Brian. It should be around 15MB now, and I didn't experience the same issue.

Now I have to try Pottage IV, which is 42MB!

Which has also been modified and now works. That got to 23MB before it bombed out, but now works a treat.
Cheers

I got the maps on the fifth try before you made your changes. Shrug.

What tool or process are you using to flatten and shrink PDFs? I've tried a few things and haven't been all that happy with the results.

Foxit Software's PhantomPDF. I have the Business Edition because I wanted access to some of the advanced features, like security and redaction, etc. I've been using Foxit Software's PDF apps instead of Adobe stuff for many years now.

If you have an existing copy of Harn Pottage 3 or 4, download the new, reduced size version from Lythia and compare the versions for yourself. I don't see a lot of difference, and even if there is, I think still high enough quality for a free download. :)
